Chi Garden Ecological Farm & Fermentation Kitchen

We are a small, BIPOC-owned local farm business located at Just Food Community Farm - 2391 Pepin Ct.  2024 is our 10th growing season. We are certified organic by Eco-cert. At Chi Garden, we first take care of soil by practicing regenerative, no-till nature farming. Healthy soil food web takes care of vegetables, which are nutrient-dense and contain many healing elements. Food is medicine. 

We produce a diverse salad mix with 20 vegetables, herbs and wild edibles from the global east and west every year, from May to November. 

We passionately preserve our harvest, primarily through lacto-fermentation. We have over 20 ‘cultured pickle’ products for sale year-round. 

As new immigrants, we are constantly learning and re-learning many traditional techniques from First Nation communities, East Asian traditions, and fellow growers. We consciously reduce outside input and carbon footprint in our garden and when we sell our products.

Through cultivating diversity, we envision our garden to become a space for community conversations around connected traditions and a shared future. 

Find us at Main Street Farmers Market on Saturdays and Just Food Farm Stand on Sundays during the growing season from May to October.

Dear Friends,

The season has flown by so quickly. We started in May, when the maples were just budding and we still had to dress in layers. Now, as October draws to a close and we say goodbye to the season and to the Main Market 2025 today, we find ourselves layering up again for single-digit temperatures. But there will be a great salad mix, tomatoes, sweet potatoes greens, and many varieties of preserves including three miso choices!

We want to take a moment to thank you for your support, encouragement, feedback, and all the wonderful conversations. Last week, when the red maples in the park were at their peak of autumn rhapsody, I looked back at our small tent from afar and felt a deep sense of gratitude. Our customers have inspired us in many ways, with the questions you asked, the stories you shared, and the images of those small seedlings that grew strong and bore fruit in your gardens. Each connection reminds us that peace is possible when we stay rooted in the same living world.

We are proud to have been your farmers, and your kimchi and natto makers this year.
And yes, tofu will make its return next season!

P.S. We will be at the Sunday Lansdowne market in November for three weekends. Come by to see us. December 6-7 will be the holiday market at Just Food Community Farm and we will send out a note before then.
